Log homes and timber frame homes, built by a family that specializes in them
Turnkey and dry-in only construction for any log or timber frame kit or package. Already bought your package, or just getting started? Call Nathan to set up a meeting about your project.
What we build
We provide turnkey and/or dry-in only construction services for all log home and timber frame home packages. There’s no project too large or too small.
Log homes
We can build your already purchased log package from the manufacturer or mill you picked, or help you choose the one that’s the right fit for you and your location. We can provide planning guides with hundreds of model plans from a few of our top choice manufacturers, or custom design your home plan.
Timber frame homes
Many builders are also dealers for one manufacturer or mill, which may or may not be the best fit for you. As an independent builder, our years of experience with many different manufacturers help you make that tough decision.
Log home
Full log walls, installed horizontally, that serve as the finished exterior of the home.
Timber frame
A self-supporting wood frame held by timber pegs, finished outside with your choice of siding.
Post and beam
A conventionally framed home with wood accent posts and beams. The least expensive way to add wood accents.
Hybrid timber
A mix of timber frame and full log features alongside conventional framing. If you can imagine it, it can be achieved.

A small, family owned business
Tolbert Contracting Inc. was started by Nathan and Angela Tolbert in 2006 in Orange County, Virginia, with log home and timber frame construction as its specialty. It still is today. With lead carpenter Bruce Jones, the Tolbert family oversees one of the few log home builders in Central Virginia.
Nathan started his career in architectural design right after high school, designing homes full time for area builders and homeowners. In 2002 he joined a Fredericksburg custom home builder as their in-house design draftsman, and found his real passion was seeing those drawings come to life. He moved up through estimating, project and production management, and in 2004 became an owner and general manager of a $7,000,000 building company, where log homes were his division. Tolbert Contracting Inc. followed in September 2006.
Nathan and Angela have six children, four boys and two girls, who will all have their chance to join the Tolbert Contracting ranks.
What our homeowners say
“If I needed another log home built tomorrow I’d have Tolbert Construction do the project! Nathan guided us through the entire construction process, suggested design improvements along the way, and didn’t nickel and dime us on change orders. The quality of the finished home is outstanding.”
“I am very happy with my log house, which was built in 2015 by Nathan Tolbert with Tolbert Contracting Inc. The quality of workmanship was superior. Nathan was always communicative and responsive about any requests or questions from the initial planning stages through construction and after completion of the job.”
“Debbie and I were kept well informed as you constructed our Lake Anna cabin: from the grading of the property, to the building of the dock, to the completed home. In talking to others here at Lake Anna, we found that Tolbert is highly respected for their knowledge and quick response to issues that arise.”
Where we build
Our home base is Orange County, Virginia, and we typically travel up to an hour and a half from it. We like to supervise every project, and anything farther threatens quality control.
Log homes
Dry-in only projects (and turnkey builds case by case) may also reach Loudoun, Clarke, Fairfax, Richmond, Northumberland, King & Queen, Henrico, Powhatan, Cumberland, Buckingham, Appomattox, Rockbridge and Amherst.
